Distant future of democracy
I wonder if there might be a theorem that liberal democracy, as it's now understood in the West, would be incompatible with an upload civilization. Informally, if one assumes that:
- every person, for a certain definition of "person", gets an equal vote
- people can be easily copied with no or minimal restrictions, given the resources to do so
- the copies have very high or perfect fidelity
then it seems like every "vote" would inevitably be won by whichever person or group had the most resources, and could therefore create the largest number of copies.
